15mm vehicles and buildings.

Welcome back to my blog.

I have some 15mm post apocalyptic or frontier world goodness for you and some 28mm plans.

First up a lightly armoured escort vehicle leads a transport across the wasteland.

The escort vehicle is from Critical Mass Games and was a delight to paint. The Ural 4320 truck is a kit by Zvezda. Very nice kit and I suspect I may be purchasing more.

Next up there is a building for the Drop City setting I am working on but it would fit many Sci Fi settings nicely. It will be either a block house near the scrap/container wall or maybe in the Shanties.

This building is by White Dragon Miniatures. It is quite detailed and was fun to paint. This would look good on any table.

I have White Dragon's shanty buildings and walls. I look forward to cracking on with them.

Right now I am working on some 28mm Rogue Trader Era Orks for my 28mm  Post Apocalyptic setting. I am planning on moving all the 28mm factions into the ruins of the planet's capitol city. This idea came from Metro 2033 and the Gangs of Nu Ork rules. It would allow all my factions to be within fighting distance. The size of a mega city would allow them all to be distant enough not to be tripping over each other. There is something to attract all factions on the world....the Tomb of the Mattblackgod.

Thanks for reading. Take care out there.

15mm post apocalyptic Ghouls.

To the south of Drop City there is a ruined city. The ruins are largely left alone by the Scavengers of the Shanties. There is a good reason why. The ruins are haunted by ghouls.

These ghouls are from Magester Militum. They run two different lines. One is a bit lankier and taller than the other. The legs on the thinner figures can be delicate. I managed to break one off its legs. I will save that for another model.

The ghouls where once human. These filthy creatures dressed in dirty stinking rags resemble something undead from the old horror movies that are sometimes shown in the Shanties bars.

Something in the old ruins turns people into rabid feral creatures. The ghouls remember how to use basic weapons but their low intellignece and short memory means they are easily distracted or fooled. When riled the ghouls show no fear and will not stop until they are dead.

These sad creatures eat what they find in the ruins and are cannibalistic. If there is no one to eat they will often turn on each other for food.

Loud noises often attracts them. Well armed parties often find themselves out numbered and running low on ammunition as hordes of the creatures stagger out of the ruins and rush forward screaming.  Thankfully bullets kill them easily.

Drop City's Doc thinks that the ghouls are created by a mutated or weakened rage virus. Maybe time or some sort of contaminating has changed it so the infected are no longer consumed with rage. The victim's attention span, intellect and memory are effected. They can no longer communicate vocally and are limited to grunting and growling. In a perfect world the Doc would pity them but for Drop City's safety and survival he orders them shot on sight.

Thanks for looking.

Wasteland Wondering - hobby update.

Hello and welcome back to my blog. I am sorry at the intervals I am putting up blog posts of late. Life has been busy but it hasn't stopped the ideas.

During the last few weeks I have has vehicle troubles with things failing on car and losing a side panel off my bike. I may have to go car hunting soon. For the bike I made a new side panel from the lid of a plastic storage box. It needs another coat or two of matt black.

There was a couple of bank holidays here. Normally I use the extra time to get some hobby time in. This year I spent the time digging out of the ivy and mint from the garden. Two weekends of fighting vines & roots and I am ready to remodel the garden. Mint and ivy seem to be very resilient plants. They would be hardy post apocalyptic survivors. The world may be in ruins but at least it will smell of mint!

We have just returned from a great week long holiday in Spain. Of course planning and preparation for a holiday eats free time. The holiday was just the ticket for us to recharge.

Out in the Spanish tourist tat shops I discovered a couple of cars for my 20mm Blood and Fire setting. They are a little bigger than the usual matchbox/hotwheels scale. I plan on stripping them for parts.

This got my brain ticking over for making some more gangs for my 20mm Blood and Fire setting. There are a few ideas for colour schemes and gang stypes.  When I get a minute I will have to record my ideas before it all pops out of my head. I guess the wastelands around Wellsprings will become more dangerous soon.

Hobby wise I have nearly finished a mob of Magester Militum 15mm ghouls for the wastelands and a White Dragon Hab block one building. The ghouls need basing. The building needs some washes and detailing. I hope to get a couple of blog posts up as soon as they get done.

Some readers have asked for a map of my 15mm Post apocalyptic setting. I have been working on it and it is still WIP.

Anyone who is familiar with me will know I am a huge fan of Metro2033 novel and game. This along with the Stalker computer games lead to the construction of my tunnel systems.

Take a look here

I have been playing the Metro2033 wars game on my tablet rekindling my interest in my tunnel warfare. Interesting strategy game and a must for Metro fans. In my 28mm world many factions are strewn across the continents and won't be able to get into contact. As I am moving to 15mm for post apoc I am thinking of plonking my 28mm factions underground.

Mattblackgod's world has a ruined capitol sat in a heavily contaminated wasteland known as a Hellzone. Matt Black city was a megacity small to Utopia city (think 2000AD's Megacity One). There was a massive underground metro system which I plan to move into my 28mm factions into. As the Megacity was three times the size of Moscow there is a lot of tunnels for them to live in.

In the pipeline is a metro map, I want to do it digitally so I can add stations and what not. Stations often change hands or get left empty so it will be handy for tracking what is going on. It will have a matt black twist. I hope to make more tunnel sections and rooms.

Just like in Metro2033 there will be some limited action surface action with stalker/salvage squads going up. There may be faction battles up there too.

Thanks for looking. Take care out there.

Wasteland Wondering - 15mm terrain update.

Hello and welcome back to another Wasteland Wondering.

Gah! It's Easter already. Where has the year gone? At least (I hope) I may get some hobby time in. I have been a little busy of late making some terrain for my 15mm post apoc project.

First up is a display board for my 15mm stuff. I intended to use this as a test for how I want my terrain boards to look.

This is made from a vynil floor tile stuck to a old pizza box lid to increase stiffness. After sanding it I glued some sand to the board. It was then hit with a red oxide rattle can. I found this a little too red for the look I want. Routing around in the hobby cave I uncovered pots of Vallejo Dry Earth and a Sand textured paints. The dry earth and sand were brushed on and water added to mix it on the floor tile. It has given a nice semi dried look to the board.

Some fine cork chippings where glued on in places. I painted these light grey and then drybrushed them with white. The whole board was lightly dry brushed with sand and then bone colours. A chestnut wash was added to tone and blend the colours. I feel this board still needs something but I am not sure what.

In history back.....before the days of this blog I made some terrain for my VSF games set on Mars.

I have decided that the Mars terrain might be useful for various scales however it looks a little redder than I wanted.

I plan to retouch these up in the same manner as the above display tile.

In the dark corners of my hobby cave there was some bits left over from my undercity project which was made mainly from Mantic Sci Fi kits:

I intended to use these as walls for my 28mm however they will make very good perimeter walls for 15mm SF with a little paint.

Meanwhile the crashed Harrier project moves forward slowly. I got the ground cover and textured paint done.
Next weathering, washes and highlighting.

My planned terrain boards for my 15mm post apoc project are still in design with my mulling over several ideas for what I want and how I will achieve it.

I have been working on a couple of vehicles. A Ural truck and a SF vehicle from Critical Mass Games. These are still WIP and need a bit more work.

In the 15mm queue there is the shanties from white dragon, the mdf ruins, ruins and adobe buildings by Amera Plastic Mouldings. Plenty to keep me going for a bit.

Thanks for reading. I hope you have a good Easter weekend. Stay safe out there.

White Dragon Goodies.

Weclome back to my demented ramblings.

Not much happening at the moment hobby wise. Last weekend I managed to get some resin and mdf models primed. I even started painting. This stalled when one of my young cats started invading my paint table wanting to play. So like the dutiful cat slave I cleared it away to play with him & prevent the potential disaster of paint spillage. At this point he lost interest and went to sleep. Cats!!

Plans to start some terrain boards has stalled as I have not had a chance to go shopping for supplies. There is also some 15mm terrain bits from Amera Plastic Mouldings to get painted up.

My car is in for major underside repairs which will take a couple of days. Apparently PT Cruisers are not made for the wasteland state of many of Britain's roads. So I am using the old Rat Bike. The long commutes each way battling traffic can leave you a little tired of an evening. More so than travelling in a car. The battering from the wind and being in a higher state of alertness takes it's toll.

My old Rat bike

Carrying huge bags of sand and pots of paint is difficult on a motorbike. Not impossible but very difficult. I once carried a couple of sacks of potting soil on a bike. That was fun. It made it handle like a three legged giraffe on hallucinagenic drugs at a disco. Not recommended. So no terrain building shopping will happen until I get my old car back.

My evening was brightened up by the arrival of some bits I ordered from White Dragon Miniatures. When I saw the 15mm shanty buildings I could not resist. They are perfect for my 15mm post apocalyptic project.

Makings of a post apoc village.

Once I had got the cat to remove his head from the box and stopped him trying to eat the styrofoam packing chips (weird animal!) I managed to get a good look my goodies. The castings look good with no casting bubbles or flash. The smaller pieces have a little resin flash to clean up. It shouldn't take too much to clean them up. Now all I need is some dry weather to get them primed. I look forward to getting them painted.

Back to the cat wrangling. Thanks for looking. Stay safe out there.

Harrier wreck WIP.

Over on the Post Apoc Wargames forum there is a Post Apoc Aircraft challenge. I have started work on a 15mm harrier wreck. I intend this to be scenery or possibly a game objective. Scavengers could live well trading with Drop City with bits from a wreck like this.

Various bits have been cut off with a saw. The cockpit canopy needed trimming and the seat/pilot removed to make it look like the pilot ejected.

Next up I need to get some ground cover on the base.

Thanks for looking, stay safe out there.

Drop City.

This is the fluff and forces for my first 15mm post apoc setting on Mattblackgod's World. It is inspired by the Toxic World novels by Sean Mclaughlin (I highly recommend them) mixed with MBW history and a few ideas of my own. Most of this has been put together from my existing minature collection.

Drop City has existed in the wastes for 40 years now and is seen by many as the last civilisation. Ruled by the Dok it has power and clean water. Drop City is based around an off world aid mission base and fortified space port. The base was evacuated when the plagues where released in the world's last days. It was the mission's Commander's report to the evacuation fleet that seeled the planet's doom.

The base was discovered by nomadic refugees in the years after the orbital bombardment. They moved in and set up home. The original perimeter walls where further fortified by shipping containers, sand bags, lumps of old salvaged concrete and scraps of metal. There is an second outer wall built from shipping containers, dirt, sand bags, lumps of concrete and scraps of metal.

The Dok, Drop City's leader

The city is built around the warehouses, workshop, hangar and offices for such a base. The landing pads and shipping container areas now feature the streets of houses, prefabs and shipping containers converted into buildings. Some of the city areas also fall between the outer and inner walls. These are mainly factories, greenhouses and other businesses.

The town population is largely made up from the refugees who founded the city, some traders & scavengers who arrived soon after, a number of ex Vaulties who's vault had a systems failure, some members of a ex militiary unit and their decendants. Drop Town's population is around 2500 people.

200 meters beyond the outer wall there lies another city. A city of adobe buildings, huts and tents known as the Shanties. The most prominent building being the 111,000creds bar noticeable because of its size and because it is one of the few places in the Shanties with electricity.

The Shanties are populated mainly by scavengers, drifters and Drop City associates (half citizens). It is difficult to put a number on how many people live in the shanties as folks just drift in and out. During the winter months when work is limited on the farms and the wastelands are too harsh to live in sees the population of the Shanties rise to an estimated 3000.

Shanties residents.

Bands of Scavengers

Drop City supplies clean water for free to the Shanties. It also supplies limited electricity supplies mainly to citizen premises in the Shanties. The Dok provides free medical services to anyone who needs it. He sees this as part of the oath he took when training before the nuclear rain.

Drop City trades supplies from it's stores and manufactured items such as arrows with the scavengers and farmers. Dok gets first pick for anything essential to the town such as medical supplies, weapons, munitions, parts and materials.

Scavengers can then set up a table to trade with other citizens and the merchants. Usually anything else is traded with the other residents of the Shanties in the marketplace there.
Drop City Merchants
Drop City is powered by a field of solar panels fitted to the tops of the warehouse and hangar. In addition there is a wind farm and tidal generators. Some old fuel generators are kept as back ups.

Deep beneath the old base is a shut down plasma reactor which can supply more than enough power for the city and the shanties. It has an estimated 50 years of life left and the Dok is reluctant to use it in case the other supplies fail.

Running vehicles are rare in the wastelands around drop city and beyond.

In the city's old hangar there is a machine shop and vehicle repair centre. Drop City keeps an old military truck ( left by the base's previous owners), several 4x4s and a couple of motorcycles. As they are precious they only get used when it is essential. The only other vehicles belong privately to wealthier citizens within the city. There are no vehicles to be found in the Shanties which is just as well it wouldn't be long before they are stolen.

Drop City vehicles are fuelled by microbe brewed bio fuels or alcohol. There are also microbes to produce oil and rubber. These microbes came as part of the base's disaster recovery stores.

There is sturdy walls protecting the city. There is a 200 meter gap between the walls and the Shanties beyond. No one is allowed to build in the dead space.

Drop City has a small number of full time Watch members who act as guards and man the gates etc. In addition to this the Watch are renforced by part time members. All watch members are Citizens.

Watch member

During attacks all Citizens and Associates fit for combat will be required to defend Drop City.

In addition to these forces there is the Drop Rangers who are based in the Shanties. This force originally came from a ex militiary platoon without someone to serve. Rather than go rogue they joined the city. Today the Rangers is made up of citizens, associates (some of whom are children of the original force) and scavengers who join to gain eventual citizenship. The Rangers help defend the city, patrols the lands and hunts down Bandits,  criminals and dangerous creatures. Members of the Rangers often spend more time out in the Wastelands than in the town. The Drop Rangers will sometimes keep law and order in the Shanties. The new Sheriff is working closely with the Rangers as they often form the backbone of any possies raised.

Drop Rangers

There was a small arsenal of weapons and munitions left by the base's previous owners. The city has a machine gun and heavy machine gun which are used during sieges. The machine gun is old and jams regularly. The heavy machine gun has ammunition that is difficult to find which limits it's use.

The city has one secret weapon, an ancient tank found in a mountain pass by the Rangers. It had been abandoned during the wars. The Tank is a old Earth remake and carries a plasma cannon. The other energy weapons where removed and replaced with machine guns by the last army to use it. The Tank is old and prone to breaking down. The plan is to roll it forward to hold the gate during a siege.

The base's stores had decontamination microbes similar to those used for industrial clean ups or terraforming. The stocks of these where very limited and unlike the other microbes could not be bred.

The lands around the shanty city for about 10 miles are used by farmers after the microbe decontamination process. There are other farms further out in clean areas. These are isolated and the most distant farms are independent of the Drop City although they do trade. Very little is fished from the sea and nearby estuary as contamination levels are still high.

In Drop City there is the Merchants Union which is a group of the most powerful (read richest) Merchants looking after their own interests. These interests usually conflict with the interests of Drop City. The Merchants Union gives the farmers and scavengers another body to trade with. The Union has it's own guards and weapons. These elitiest merchants live in their own compounds within Drop City and they are set up so it is a City within the City.

Everything within a 30 mile radius has pretty much been stripped by the scavengers (or salvage crews made up of Drop City citizens) and traded with the city. Now they move further into the boneyards and mountains looking for salvage. These places bring new hazards and dangers.

15mm Wasteland Characters

15mm scale is really talking to me at the moment. As a result I am starting a 15mm Post Apoc project. The plan is to restart Mattblackgod's world in 15mm with some new towns and some reused factions in 15mm.

There will be some reusing of my 15mm Wild Galaxy figures, as soon as I have sorted my first setting fluff  for "Drop Town". I will be gaming mainly small skirmish games.

Firstly let me introduce you to THE WARLORD!!!!

This is the big bad scary guy who will be commanding hordes of fierce wastelanders. The stories say that the wolf pelt he wears came from a wolf the Warlord killed with his teeth! This figure is by Khurasan minatures and is large for a 15mm.  Which suits as it makes him intimidating looking leader.

Alice came into the Shanties outside Drop Town a couple of seasons back. She is a hardcase and skilled fighter. Alice has a sense of justice which she cannot ignore. Her kick ass attitude has come to the attention of the leader of Drop Town, a old guy called Dok. He has made her an associate (half citizen of Drop Town) if she takes the job of Sheriff of the Shanties. Someone needs to keep law and order in the shanty town. Alice is considering his proposal. The figure is by Khurasan Miniatures.

This is the Wanderer. A strange loner who is more than a little crazy. He wanders into the Shanties and Drop Town Market from time to time to trade salvage for fuel, ammunition and parts. No one has ever seen the vehicle he runs. No one dares follow him out into the wastes as he is crazy. The figure is by Khurasan Miniatures.

This guy is called "Marked One". No one knows his real name, not even him. He currently works at the largest bar in the shanties, the 111,000 creds bar. He works as the bouncer cracking the heads of drunks who get out of hand. Marked One carries a sniper rifle of excellent quality and is a crack shot. This scavenger speaks of his travels and a place out beyond the mountains filled with salvage, strange mutant animals, toxins, radioactivity and stranger phenomenon. He calls this place the Zone and often says he will return because it keeps calling him. Many Scavengers think he is a little unhinged.

I have no idea what this mini is but I liked it a lot (*edit - The figure is from Ion Age).

Group shot.

Thats all for now. Thanks for looking.

Civilization Interceptor Drivers.

Hello and Welcome back to my blog,

Hobby! Hobby! I am actually getting some hobby related stuff done! I have to distract the cat hordes and wear them out for a hour or so. This leaves me a couple of hours of time to spend doing hobby stuff whilst they sleep. It stops all the noses and paws in everything.

I have managed to get some 20mm figures finished for my Blood and Fire setting.

These are Interceptor Drivers from Civilisation. They patrol out into the Wastelands to keep Civilisation safe from the vermin on machines.

Zac Kelly loves to play old world rock and metal when he rides into battle. He is a cool cat and very little rattles him. The figure is a old GW Dark Future mini.

Karla Kickass is one of the few lady Interceptor drivers. She is a fierce opponent and doesn't like to lose. The figure is by Elhiem miniatures. The sculpt isn't too great.

Kip Charles is a ex military hardcase. Kip is a veteran of a thousand battles. He is gung ho and shows no mercy. The figure is a old GW Dark Future figure.

The car in the background is a old GW Dark Future Interceptor.

Thanks for looking and stay safe out there!

Wasteland Wondering. 15mm fun.

Hello and welcome back.

I am glad to report that I have finally got some hobby work on this week. The going has been slow as I have numerous interruptions from my two furry hooligans who felt the need to investigate every thing that I was doing. They are not yet 1 year old and are still very inquisitive. Thankfully they have decided that my toys are not interesting enough to play with or eat.

First up was this 15mm scale MDF ruin I picked up from evilbay. It is designed for WW2 games. I figured that it will look great on my 15mm post apoc setting.

The kit is well detailed. My only issues are that there is no internal walls and only one set of floor boards for the upper floors. I added some internal walls to break up lines of sight inside the ruin.

15mm mdf ruins seem to be plentiful out there and amera plastic mouldings make some too. It won't be long until I have a full table for my scavengers to fight over.

I got some minis painted this week too. Last year I started some 20mm figures to be Interceptor Drivers as part of my Blood and Fire setting. I set too finishing them off. Two of them are old GW Dark Future figures and the other is from Elheim. In addition to this there is four 15mm figures, mainly from Rebel (I think). These are the first additions to my 15mm post apocalyptic setting.

The figures just need basing now. I plan a 15mm version of Mattblackgod's world but with largely new factions. I need to get my first background finished ("Droptown") and get recruiting from my Wild Galaxy collection.

This week a new hot tool polystyrene cutter arrived on my door mat. Eager to try it out I quickly attacked a cliff top I made a while back. I have been itching to add a cave entrance to it.

The cutter works well. Quickly I had a cave mouth. It will need some practice for more complex cuts I think. The lump of polystyrene I removed will become a rocky outcrop on the table. The cutter happily carves high density blue foam too.

That's all for now. I am happy to be hobbying again.

Thanks for reading. Take care out there.

Warlord's Challenge 2017 - PA aircraft WIP

Over on the Post Apocalyptic Wargames Forum, the Warlord's 2017 challenge is to build a post apocalyptic aircraft. If you like the sound of it come join in the fun.

Link to 2017 Warlord's Challenge

Before this challenge was decided I thought to pick up a 15mm scale harrier kit. No real reason for the purchase. I am still getting my head into 15mm scaling so the kit was for reference.

However I now think a crashed or abandoned Harrier would be a cool model. I am not a fan of high tech air power in a post apoc setting. They are notoriously difficult to maintain and drink fuel quicker than a Ruby Team in a free bar.

First up assembly of the Revel snap together kit. I found this fiddly as bits keep popping off. If I was keeping the jet stock I would use a little super glue to keep it together. As such I assembled it and I left the stores/weapons off because if they pinged off one more time the kit would have seen the underside of my size 11 boot!

There is a number of ideas in my head for this kit.

1. A jet during the wars suffers a malfunction or runs low on fuel and is forced to land. In which case some of the stores may still be fitted, although pilots would probably emergency jettison them before a forced/emergency landing.

2. A jet destroyed during the end. Maybe the blasts forced it out of control?

3. The jet was shot down during the wars.

The last two present the question of did the pilot jettison?  I have a few things to think about before work starts.

Thanks for looking, stay safe out there.

More Dark Future cars for my Blood & Fire setting.

I was mooching about Evilbay looking for some Mad Max cars and I stumbled on a auction of Dark Future cars. It was one of those lucky finds that I landed. So my forces of Fire and Blood have some new additions....

More Interceptors seeking fame & fortune in the wastelands.

These cars just need the Interceptor names adding to match the others in my collection. Some new weapons may be added too.

There was this Hotwheels Interceptor conversion.

There was a few Renegades in the batch too.

They all need a little touching up. Some new weapons may be nice too. Not too sure what gangs these vehicles will be added too.

In the auction there was some converted hotwheels cars.

This one will be added to Civilisation's Police Force.

There is a couple of gang cars too.

Not sure what gangs to use these for just yet.

The lot also had these useful bits. Lots of Dark Future weapons. Some conversion fun will be had soon.

In all a good haul.
